Fixing retro-reflective tapes to be mandatory for all commercial vehicles

The government is set to make it mandatory to fix retro-reflective tapes on all commercial vehicles irrespective of their year of manufacturing. Even three-wheelers including e-rickshaw and e-carts shall be affixed at the front with a white reflective tape and at the rear with a red reflective rape running across the width of the body.these changes are being introduced to increase their visibility in dark and to prevent road accidents.
The road transport ministry has issued a draft notification proposing the changess.
officials said the ministry had issued a notification in november 2008 in which it had the fixing of retro-reflective tapes on all commercial vehicles manufactured after april 2009.”it has come to the notice of the government that most of the older vehicles,taking advantage of this notification are taking exemption during their annual fitment test,”.As per thedraft notification,the reflective tapes on three-wheelers at the front and rear shall be not less than 20mm width

“Rear marking tape", a tape with retro-reective and fluorescent material or devices intended to increase the visibility and permit easy identication of heavy and long vehicles."
